Christian Könitzer

My mother took a city tour to Istanbul when I was 12 years old. When she came back and talked about the tour guide, I knew: that's what I want to do too. So I focused on this goal, completed an apprenticeship at a travel agency, and worked for two years in the special travel department. After that, at 21, my dream came true. I led my very first tour with 25 people on the then brand-new TGV from Lausanne to Paris. A year before that, I was on my very first cruise from Miami to the Caribbean on the Song of America by Royal Caribbean Cruise Line - and since then I have completed over 100 cruises. Privately, as a tour guide, but also as an international host, cruise director, and cruise leader. Cruises are my great passion; in the late spring of my tour-guide years, I primarily accompanied this type of travel.

My son, who is training in IT, inspired me to share my experiences with an interested readership. I have been documenting them since 2026.

If you enjoy my travel blog, then sign up for my newsletter. I share irregular tips and special travel offers that I have access to. On swisstravel.club, I also arrange journeys that I personally lead or organize together with tour operators. It's worth checking in from time to time.

Do You Still Need a Tour Guide Today?

Travel has never been easier than it is today. Booking flights, comparing hotels, planning routes - all just a few clicks away. So do you still need a tour guide? A fair question.

Of course, there are travelers who want to organize everything themselves: they plan each stage in advance, book hotels independently, and research excursions and sights. And yes, such trips can work. But there is another side.

The Tour Guide - Your Safety Net in the Background

A tour guide is like insurance. You hope you never really need it. But when something happens, you are glad to have it. Travel is not always predictable. Flights get canceled. Weather changes plans. Unexpected situations happen.

A recent example: when thousands of travelers were suddenly stranded in Dubai, uncertainty spread quickly. Those traveling with organized support had a clear advantage: one point of contact, backup behind the scenes, and someone who could find solutions. This is exactly where the real value appears.

Travel Becomes Easier

Traveling with a tour guide changes the whole experience:

  • You do not have to manage anything - everything is organized
  • You move through your journey safely and calmly
  • You save valuable time
  • You can focus on what really matters: experiencing, discovering, and enjoying.

More Than Organization

A good tour guide is not just a planner, but also a host. They are:

  • Your go-to contact
  • Your problem solver
  • Your door opener to special places and stories
  • Someone who listens and takes your concerns seriously
  • Someone who creates calm and a positive atmosphere
  • When needed: a calm mediator

In short: someone who makes sure you feel well looked after at all times.

Who Is a Tour Guide Ideal For?

For people who:

  • Want to travel in a relaxed way
  • Value safety
  • Prefer experiencing over planning
  • Want to enjoy their time intentionally

Conclusion

Today, you can organize everything yourself. But the real question is not whether you can - it is whether you want to. In the end, it is not about planning. It is about the experience.

And this is exactly why organized travel exists: experience instead of planning, with nothing to worry about. If this is how you want to travel, you will find suitable, carefully organized offers at Swiss Travel Club.
